It is STRONGLY recommended that you review the
introduction
to this text as it explains key issues of coding, accent, and access. You can also
access the RV
according to hymns cited by the Shatapatha. Also, long vowels are rendered as double letters, with accent via ' markings over the appropriate letter. Font constraints require that vocalic R remain a capital, with : for length, and the original ! for accent. This will be rectified with
ILK.
Especially note considerations of
accent
in the ShB, which differs from that of the RV (in the HOS diacritic versions marked as udaatta from Aufrecht, with "'" or "`").
I have listed each section of the Shatapatha by individual
with the individual subsections to be numbered later. There are
shortcuts
to each of the 14 kaaNDa's. Each section, where applicable, is linked to the RV maNDala upon which it is based (via usage in the
in close approximation), or which it specifically repeats verbatim. Additions/corrections please send to:

Please review the
introduction
to this linked section as the process of linking itself yields questions for new perspectives on the intertextuality of the Old and Middle Vedic Canon. In particular,
please note
the amazing foresight of Robert Lehmann and Dr. H. S. Ananthanarayana for their visionary encoding of this text in 1971. With the virtual lightyears of technological transformations in subsequent 25 years, their scheme of encoding remains efficient, intuitive--and technically adaptible to any platform with virtually not limitations.
NOTE: the word breaks per akSara are not present. This is for the reasons of 1). the original from which this is derived 2). efforts to preserve some copyright integrity by not offering a fully processed text without due review, and 3). it emulates the usual printed editions more closely which, I contend, is the only way to use e-texts. Until such time as technology and, more importantly, terminals, afford realistic and
physiologically safe
environments for extended viewing in the absence of analogue versions, e-texts should remain a supplement to the printed edition. This will ensure both the health, and the diligence of those using the resource!
The material linked to and from the
Rig Veda
is based on the combined notes of Eggeling's SBE series translation, and the notes by Griffith in his VS edition. Those sections with such links have an "*" by the citation below.
More detailed referencing, of course, can be found in Bloomfield's
Vedic Concordance .
This ShB text, like the related RV text, will be linked according to the words under study for my dissertation as noted
elsewhere
.
The index below is divided into two pages identical to the present page for quicker loading/access.
