Slide #: VI
Basic Components of Mapping and Updating Data
relational deployment with software

The mapping uses either an RDBMS structure--such as Oracle with an XSU or XML flat output--or a Document Type Definition (DTD) from markup languages as well as a related markup technology, schemas. These are mapped to each other. The data is not touched, but the way each division names and arranges it is correlated. This in turn facilitates updating when specifications change, layout for web reporting changes, etc. If greater granularity is added (e.g., names marked by first, middle, and last instead of just "name"), other connections in a data warehousing schema or topic map need not be changed themselves, but maintain the integrity of their content correspondences and links.
